Welcome to the site of the Orthodox Church and Community in Durham
We are a mixed community under the pastoral care of Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira (Ecumenical Patriarchate), Bishop Matthew of Sourozh (Moscow Patriarchate), and Metropolitan Iosif (Romanian Patriarchate).
Our worship is strengthened by the prayers of Christians from different Orthodox backgrounds, including English, Greek, Romanian, Russian, German, Bulgarian, Georgian and Polish Orthodox Christians, as well as guests from other churches. We celebrate mainly in English, with hymns and readings also in Greek, Romanian and Slavonic.
Our services take place in the church of St Mary-the-Less, South Bailey, opposite St John’s College (DH1 3RJ), see map below.
For photos from the visits of Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh, see the albums on the site of the Diocese for Feb 2012 and May 2010.
